Feeling better today!!! Only had to rush to bathroom twice! I think my body is beginning to adjust to this new medication. I am sooo thankful! I was able to get out, run an errand for my mom and go grocery shopping. I needed to get some appropriate food for my new life-style!

I'm still not making the time to do what I need on exercise. I always seem to have an excuse. I just need to get up and do it!!!
I really need to concentrate more on my water intake. I did really well the first couple of days. Now, I just seem to forget. I need to make sure I have a mug or bottle of water with me wherever I go. Today I drank 48 ounces of water. I really need to make sure I am getting a minimum of 64 ounces!
I found out today one of my childhood friends is now an orphan. Her father passed a couple of years ago and her mother just a day or so ago. It reminded me of why I am doing this. I don't want my children to be orphans, even at the age of 38! I want to be around to see my grandchildren and great grandchildren!

Day 2
Today was pretty comparable to yesterday. A little nausea and diarhea. Still trying to adjust to new medicines??? Did ok with the eating and not feeling hungry. Not much on the exercise though. Thought I'd be out walking for an hour or two while the kids tricked or treated. But, I couldn't stay away from the bathroom! Well, lets calculate the calories and see how I REALLY did!
Breakfast: Glucotrol chocolate shake = 190 calories. Snack: low fat mozzarella string cheese = 50 calories. Lunch: fish sandwich = 280 calories. Dinner: half ham & cheese hoagie = 544 calories; pickle spear = 5 calories; side salad w/ catalina dressing = 285 calories total dinner = 834 calories YIKES! Going to have to watch that salad dressing and make sure they hold the cheese!!! Well, lets total the damage for the day:
TOTAL: 1354 calories.
Not bad! Another successful day! According to doctor I need to aim for 1200 to 1500 calories daily. I also learned some ways I can cut out some of the calories I had today. Learning is always good. I was not as successful on my water intake today, only had about 48 ounces. I also had one diet coke.
Looking forward to tomorrow. I know I can do it!!!

The Start
Ok, here goes! First time for me to start a blog. This one really isn't for a lot of other people to read. But, rather a place for me to think out loud, record my day and reflect. The majority of this blog is dedicated to the "new me" program I started yesterday. My goal is to lose weight, get fit and finish a marathon by Spring 2011. With God, I KNOW I can do this!
First step: start losing weight and get active.
Yesterday was the first day for me to begin my journey to the new me. I feel it was fairly successful. I started the two new medications my doctor gave me. Initially, I was a bit nauseated. Experienced diarhea in the morning. But, as the day progressed, I felt better.
For breakfast I had one Glucotrol chocolate shake: 190 calories, 2 oz apple juice (was feeling shaky) 25 calories, = 215 calories Lunch : lean beef patty 4oz 320 cal (estimated, take out from Johnny's), 1 C cottage cheese 203 calories (est. again),= 503 calories Dinner: McD's fish sandwich w/ no cheese and no tarter sauce 280 calories, diet coke 0 calories, gold fish 25 pieces 70 calories, 64 oz water 0 calories.= 350 calories Bedtime: 5 club crackers w/ meds 88 calories
TOTAL CALORIES FOR THE DAY: 1156 calories
I never really felt hungry during the day. Also, did not have a lot of energy. Mid afternoon I felt like my blood sugars were getting low. Tested though and they were at 177. So, just rode out the symptoms - cold sweats and shakes. They lasted about 2 hours. Did not do any walking or exercise. :( Will try to do better there.
Overall, I felt it was a successful day. I was able to find acceptable, lower calorie options when my family ate out. I did not do well eating fruits and veggies. Nor did I do well exercising. But, I did do well with my calorie count and water intake.
